Shreve Collaborates With A New Community Partner To Bring Victim Services To The Neighborhood
As part of the Self Reliance Community Initiative (SRCI), Provident has collaborated with the Crime Victim Advocacy Center to provide victim services at the Shreve Neighborhood Center beginning in September, 2007. It was clear from last year’s Shreve Neighborhood Assessment that criminal activity remains problematic. 61% of the respondents reported crime to be a huge issue in the neighborhood. We also have learned that many of the youth in the neighborhood are victimized regularly, which often goes unreported. Victimization becomes part of their normal world.
Julie Lawson, Executive Director for the Crime Victim Advocacy
Center, stated that many youth who are victims often become
perpetrators themselves, creating a constant cycle of violence. Ms.
Lawson was happy to partner with Provident by coming on site with
trained counselors to assist victims of crime on a weekly basis. She
also reported the need for neighborhood services, which would possibly
increase the number of individuals utilizing the service. Anyone who
has been a victim of a crime, reported or unreported, can contact
Shreve at (314) 382-0710 and make an appointment to see a victim
services counselor.
