CALM – Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage It
Anger is natural. Avoiding anger is not the answer; listening to what your anger is telling you and responding constructively is the answer.
CALM (Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage It) is a group program that helps clients understand and control their anger.
Provident began conducting CALM groups in 2005. The program utilizes a cognitive behavioral theraputic approach and has proven statistically effective in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The CALM program consists of 14 hour-and-a-half weekly group sessions.
CALM participants are typically men with a history of aggessive behavior, violence and criminal activity. Participants are often non-voluntary and attend the group as a condition of probation and parole or employment.
Individuals with a history of domestic violence are not appropriate for CALM and are referred to Provident’s more intensive programs (MEDV or WAAVE) which last a total of 32 weeks.
