According to the National Center on Women & Family Law, 80 percent of abusers have been victims of child abuse or have witnessed abuse against their mothers. Families for Safe Environments takes preventative action toward the effects of domestic violence on children. The program, which operates out of several schools in St. Clair County, Ill., offers youth groups that focus on self-esteem, anger management and behavior issues.
