Before the interview…
  • Can you tell your story in two minutes?
  • Are you appropriately dressed for the job for which you are applying?
  • Do you have at least three references?
  • Have your references given you permission to use their names?
  • Do you have your Social Security card, special licenses and other necessary information?
  • Can you pronounce the interviewer’s full name?
  • Have you learned as much as you can about the company?
  • Do you have multiple copies of your resume?
  • Have you completed any necessary application paperwork?

 

Opening the interview…
  • Use eye contact
  • Introduce yourself and state the position for which you are applying
  • Use a firm hand shake with the interviewer
  • Sit down after you have been invited to be seated
  • Sit straight in the chair, leaning slightly forward
  • Smile and demonstrate enthusiasm

 

During the interview…
  • Be honest and sincere
  • Use your own style of words, but be professional and business-like
  • Naturally use prepared opening and closing statements
  • Break up complex statements and ideas
  • Prove your abilities
  • Stress reliability and flexibility
  • Ask relevant questions
  • Discuss your successes and achievements

 

Closing the interview...
  • Thank the interviewer for the opportunity to discuss your qualifications for the position
  • Specify your interest in the position and the company
  • Indicate your ability to perform the job
  • Request an opportunity to phone employer to review the status of the position
  • Establish callback day and time
  • Ask for employer's business card
  • Shake hand siwth employr in possible

 

Follow up to the interview...
  • Write a thank you email or letter to the interviewer
  • Send email or letter the same day as the interview
