JOB TITLE: Development Manager

DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Institutional Advancement

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Vice President, Marketing and Institutional Advancement

Develops and implements development plans, providing critical donor management and event management services along with donor communication strategies based on the Benevon (Raising More Money) model.  Manages all aspects of the development function including direct mail and telephonic contacts, recording of gifts and reporting progress, coordinating volunteers and supervision of copy preparation, printing, mailing and other required duties related to communication with Provident's donors.

SUMMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement with responsibilities that include, but are not limited to managing donor databases (such as Paradigm and Access), supervision of processing donations and preparation of acknowledgement correspondence, managing direct mail and telephonic processes, fund-raising event management, communication with donors, volunteers and other supporters, printing management with vendors and free-lance parties and oversight over all other development functions.  May be called upon to write media releases, copy for quarterly newsletters, website updates, grant proposals, and internal communications, particularly related to donors.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Responsible for developing and implementing the Benevon (Raising More Money) model adopted by Provident to add to the number of people who know more about Provident and become passionate about supporting Provident financially.

2.    Responsible for maintaining constituent data in databases making efficient use of development software including, but not limited to, recording of proper gift information, designing and producing donor reports, aiding in the development of new donor appeals based on donor information and supervising volunteers in completing mailings and other functions when called upon.

3.    Responsible for all correspondence for donor appeals including: follow-up correspondence, direct mailings, corporate giving communications, individual appeals, major gift and planned giving communications.

4.    Participate in the planning, set-up and overall execution of all the agency's special promotional and fund-raising events.

5.    Initiate phone calls to donors and/or potential donors to set up appointments for CEO/President, VP of Institutional Advancement, board members and you.

6.    Write any copy necessary for communicating with donors and other supporters of Provident in the quarterly newsletter, on the web site, direct mail letters, brochures, grant proposals or other such media, which further the understanding of Provident's mission by current and prospective donors

7.    Take photos when necessary for promoting activities or events which are supportive of development activities.

8.    Manage Provident's website as well as divisional websites as requested.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.A. Degree in Business Administration, English, Journalism, Public Relations, Statistics, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of five years experience working in corporate or professional setting
  • Three years experience in a marketing/development role or role where coordination of numerous individuals was important
  • Proficient computer skills, experience with fund-raising databases desired
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible, analytical and energetic, with a winsome attitude
  • Experience in event planning and implementation

Job-Specific Knowledge and Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of print and electronic resources used to communicate with donors.
  • Professionally accepted writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, Paradigm (Sage) development software, Access
  • Ability to establish and build relationships with donors
