With more than 70 dedicated volunteers answering crisis calls and offering understanding and a listening ear to over 100 individuals every day, LCS recognizes that its volunteers are at the center of its work.

Since answering crisis calls requires confidence and understanding of their serious nature, LCS provides all volunteers with an extraordinary training program.

LCS holds three volunteer training sessions a year, in the spring, summer and fall. Sessions are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays and total 48 hours of classroom, observation and hands-on experience.

Volunteers answer all in-coming crisis room calls, and a clinical staff member is on-call at all times to provide back-up support.

LCS asks each volunteer to give a one-year commitment at a minimum of one shift per week. Each shift is three hours long, with the exception of two two-hour shifts and the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. overnight shift. For more information about volunteering at LCS, please call (314) 647-3100.
