FLITE (Future Leaders in Training to Excel) is an evidence-based program of Provident’s Self-Reliant Community Initiative designed to reduce and prevent substance abuse and suicide among underserved youth in grades 5th through 12th in the 63115 zip code of North Saint Louis.
FLITE helps our youth learn the skills to become future leaders in our community.

Program Components:
Substance Abuse
Education and treatment groups for 3-years
Prevention groups twice a week provide enrichment activities, abuse education and recreation
Parent groups and individual counseling sessions
Suicide Prevention
Students, teachers, school social workers and counselors will attend suicide prevention and intervention skills training
Students (grades 6-8) will attend classroom-based, age appropriate, educational sessions on suicide prevention
Students at-risk of suicide will receive individual counseling services
Teachers, school social workers and counselors will receive 1.5 hours of training on the “Question Persuade and Respond” (QPR) service model
Teachers, school social workers and counselors will attend an “Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training” (ASIST)
The FLITE program will teach students to:
- Become role models and peer-to-peer mentors
- Make good choices
- Demonstrate independence
- Recognize negative behaviors and actions
- Avoid negative peer pressure
- Develop suicide prevention skills
- Identify the dangers of substance abuse
