Provident is pleased to welcome Sam Guthrie to our team as a school-based Behavioral Health Intervention Specialist. Sam is a former juvenile officer who is now embedded at Brittany Woods Middle School in University City, giving students a non-therapeutic, safe space to share their feelings and coordinate additional services as needed.

Sam served fifteen students in his first month on the job. One example was a youth who met with him seven times to open up about the grief, trauma, and emotional challenges he was experiencing.

Having this service normalizes the process of talking about mental health for students. Sam’s presence is comforting, and delivering these services at school makes care convenient for families.

Provident is working to expand our school-based services into the Jennings School District and the St. Louis Public School District.
